History
Spring of 2006 a group of individuals met to discuss cancer survivors, in our area, who have a need for funds to assist them with their expenses. Many members, at this first meeting, had been volunteering for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life raising money for cancer research. It became known to these individuals that there was a local need for financial assistance that Relay For Life was not able to meet. Thus a discussion was started to find a way to help.
July 2006 a core group of Ronnie Martin, Diane Olson, Eunice and Judge Ketterling, Colleen Brudwick plus Liz Miller met to start the paper work for a North Dakota Certificate of Incorporation and to file for Federal Tax Exemption. Judge Ketterling was very instrumental in setting up our non-profit status he made sure our “Ducks were in a row”. We had other key supporters both financially and with legal issues their help was greatly appreciated.
By December 2006 Turtle Mountain Cancer Support Inc. (TMSCI) received its Certificate of Incorporation from North Dakota and our Federal Tax Exempt status. At that time Turtle Mountain Cancer Support Inc. started to raise funds for cancer survivors. Over the 8 years we have raised over $106,000 and assisted almost 200 individuals in our area with cancer.
